The Stay Puft Marshmallow Man is a fictional mascot from the Ghostbusters franchise of media who sometimes appears as a giant, lumbering paranormal monster. It first appeared as a picture logo on a prop package of marshmallows in Dana Barrett's apartment when she places the groceries onto her kitchen counter and then later in the climax of the 1984 film, Ghostbusters and subsequently was incorporated into many other Ghostbuster media, including the animated series, The Real Ghostbusters; a number of Ghostbusters-related comics, a stage show and numerous video games. In Ghostbusters Universe, it is the mascot of the fictional food company, Stay Puft Marshmallow Corporation (identical to the use of the Pillsbury Doughboy mascot, who bears extreme resemblance to Puft). Within the universe, it is also used as the subject of a Marshmallow Man cartoon series. Along with the Ghostbusters logo and Ghostbusters 2 logos, the image of the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man has become one of the most recognizable emblems of the franchise.

Ultimate Showdown Title 04

Stay Puft's appearance in the title cards.

The Stay Puft Marshmallow Man first appeared to the public in Sheet #20. He was the 591st character made for the game.

Title Card[]

On the title card splash screen, Stay Puft can be found at the far right corner of the 40 panels, officially referred to as "Title Card #4". Though mostly being ignored by those fighting around his feet, he is seen being used as a spot to rest for Froggy, is being used as a platform to hookshot off of by Link, Hero of Twilight, and finally is being ineffectively stabbed by Yoda using his lightsaber.

Unlock Tier[]

  1. Gozer: Gozer unlocks once Destroyer class characters begin to be fielded, or Zuul and Vinz Clortho encounter one another and initiate their ultimate ability in close proximity to each other.
  2. Stay Puft Marshmallow Man: When Gozer initiates their ultimate ability while near any other player, Gozer will transform into Stay Puft. Alternatively, the character will unlock after Daikaiju are beginning to be fielded. Stay Puft cannot transform back into Gozer and for the sake of gameplay, the Gozer character is considered to be "killed".
  3. Necrotic Stay Puft Marshmallow Man: Also known as "Zombie Stay Puft", this form can be unlocked either during gameplay or automatically after a set period. This is instigated by infecting Stay Puft and transform him into a zombie using zombified characters. This will split the player character and Zombie Stay Puft, which will then be unlockable but this will drop both Stay Pufts to 50% of their total health. This alternate version of Stay Puft will also unlock most Daikaiju characters have been selected and killed.

Abilities[]

Rivalries[]

Stay Puft does 150% damage to Ghostbusters Egon Spengler, Peter Venkman, Ray Stantz, and Winston Zeddemore, though not to any of the others. He can do 10% extra damage to Necrotic Stay Puft Marshmallow Man.

Summon Mini-Pufts[]

The residual energy of Gozer can bring bags of Mini-Pufts to terrorize the region. Activating the power covers a circular region around Stay Puft; if a residential house or grocery store building is found in this radius it will summon 38‒43 Mini-Pufts.

Cooldown timer is 1 minute per batch. They can only be spawned from still-standing residential houses or grocery stores.

The player should keep in mind that Mini Pufts and Mini-Pufts are separate styles of entity.

Spawn Mini Pufts[]

Stay Puft "excretes" a number of semi-sapient marshmallows. They are highly aggressive towards all players and cannot be controlled by Stay Puft.

Cooldown timer is 2 minute per batch. However, Stay Puft must consume players or destroy structures in order to summon another batch. 10-15 are summoned per batch.

The player should keep in mind that Mini Pufts and Mini-Pufts are separate styles of entity.

Spawn Marshmallow Minis[]

The Marshmallow Man can throw a physical chunk of his body as a projectile attack. This will sacrifice .5% of his total health, and cannot be done below 20% HP. When this projectile hits a solid object it will spawn a number of Marshmallow Minis that will attack any other player in the area, protecting and supporting Stay Puft.

Stay Puft Mini Man[]

Stay Puft can summon a miniature version of himself. These will track after the first nearest foe it encounters. If they make contact with a player, that player will be encased in marshmallow goo and be trapped. They will have to rapidly press a button to free themselves. The cooldown is 5 seconds, but only 10 Mini Men can be active at any one time. If they don't encounter another player for 1 minute, they will detonate on their own.
